About Me

profile web.jpg

My name is Katie Walker, I am an equine therapist in massage and rehabilitation for health and performance.  Prior to becoming a sports’ therapist, I have over ten years working experience in the racing industry with jobs ranging from grooming and work riding to transport and stud work.  I have worked all over the world including Australia and Japan as well as at home in Scotland and where I now reside, in Ireland.
I will be working on muscles to improve functionality, health and posture.  I primarily use myofascial release techniques with trigger point therapy for remedial massage.  I also adapt into my session when necessary spinal freedom techniques to mobilise the tissues around the vertebrae, kinesiotaping which aids muscle and lymphatic systems and can be used in training and therapeutically.  I can also use acupressure points to promote circulation and aid healing whilst releasing tensions and manual lymphatic drainage techniques for horses with poor circulation.
I studied with the equine massage academy which is an internationally recognised premier training agent and achieved a level 5 qualification.  I have previously studied at Nottingham Trent University to achieve a BSc Honors degree in Equine Sports Science where I studied my dissertation to investigate the impact of ground surface in jumping of national hunt racehorses.  I have worked with all different types and horses and believe massage can have a beneficial effect on horses both mentally and physically.
